From these firsthand experiences, Dorothy has developed a keen interest and passion related to health issues.

In 2014, Dorothy became one of the first Deaf people to receive the American Coach Certificate that is awarded from the International Coaching Federation (ICF). This was the result of being enrolled in two-year Life Coaching program with Crossroad Solutions Coach, Inc. She is an Integrative Wellness Coach working with Deaf people from various walks of life to embrace a healthy lifestyle via holistic approaches and yoga, which increase positive energy and promote being present in life.

Since July 2011, Dorothy has co-led over 20 Deaf Yoga and Life Retreats with Deborah S. Mayer, who is the Founder and CEO of Crossroad Solutions Coach. In order to provide Life Coaching and Yoga to Deaf people nationally, we have hosted retreats in Washington State, Arizona, Missouri, Maryland, Indiana and other locales. After the retreat, many participants have a better understanding how yoga works because they finally have access to yoga in ASL. Most of the participants leave inspired and rejuvenated after a weekend of positive energy where a wonderful sense of community has been created.

In 2013, Dorothy was elected to be one of the Global Deaf Women Amazing Business Women. She attended her first “Power of Me” Retreat in April 2013 in Washington, DC to learn and relearn the ropes of running her company, “Deaf Roots and Wings.” Dorothy has resided in Rochester, New York since she was one year old. She is currently married to a wonderful man and they recently celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary in Honolulu, Hawaii with friends and family. We have a Deaf dog named Beau. During her leisure time, she enjoys meaningful movies, exercising, taking photos, getting massages, and chatting with good friends over a cup of chai latte. One quirky thing about her is that she has a purple streak in her hair!
